Comparative Degree of Adjectives

Positive Degree Comparative Degree
1. Comparative degree is formed adding suffix -іш-, with no changes in the stem of the adjective:
cвіжий, -a, -e, -i
смачний, -a, -e, -i
твердий, -a, -e, -i
кислий, -a, -e, -i
солоний, -a, -e, -i
гіркий, -a, -e, -i
ароматний, -a, -e, -i
соковитий, -a, -e, -i
свіжіший, -a, -e, -i
смачніший, -a, -e, -i
твердіший, -a, -e, -i
кисліший, -a, -e, -i
солоніший, -a, -e, -i
гіркіший, -a, -e, -i
ароматніший, -a, -e, -i
соковитіший, -a, -e, -i
2. Comparative degree may also be formed by suffix -ш-, with no changes in the stem of the adjective:
м’який, -a, -e, -i м’якший, -a, -e, -i
3. Suffixes -к-, -ок-, -ек- are omitted before the сomparative suffix –ш-:
солодкий, -a, -e, -i солодший, -a, -e, -i
4. Irregular:
малий, -a, -e, -i
великий, -a, -e, -i
менший, -a, -e, -i
більший, -a, -e, -i
